Worship and Music

The Worship & Music Team strives to implement programs, practices, and music that will enhance your worship experience and bring you into the presence of our Lord. The team’s mission is to provide the highest quality services and encourage as many members as possible as participants and leaders, according to their gifts.
WORSHIP AND MUSIC REPORT FOR 2009
The worship and music committee for 2009 included Pastor Scott Johnson, music director, Daniel Trzeciak, Rainey Koga, Bob Lempkowski, Carl and Julie Malin, and and Anita Lambert. We are grateful for their serving on the committee.
The contemporary worship team played and sang for and with the New Community Church of Chicago (Congolese congregation) on August 16 and between 15 and 20 of LCC members came to the service. We were blessed to participate with this warm and inviting congregation, which fed everyone lunch following the service. The team was scheduled to play at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington on August 15 but had to cancel because of the commitment to the New Community Church.
The committee discussed and implemented a drama series for the Lenten services, which were directed by Rainey Koga. Thank you Rainey for a job well done, and thank all of you who provided some very excellent acting for the plays. Finally, thank you Lynnea Semasko for organizing our Lenten dinners; our stomach and our spirits were fed.
The committee recommended to the council that we change the name of the second service from the Praise Service to Contemporary Worship, and then to Family Worship. The goal of Family Worship is to involve more families in the actually service, in terms of reading lesson, ushering, and being involved more in the worship, including helping with communion.
The committee also discussed and was involved in reviewing a new Bible study series on DVD called A LUTHERAN APPROACH TO INTERPRETING SCRIPTURE, featuring a Lutheran seminary professor talking about how to understand the Bible. It is very interesting and we hope to show this series at least once if not twice in the coming year, it is very
The committee recommended that starting June 7 through September 13, we have one worship service each Sunday, due to the fact that so many people are away on vacation and/or weekend trips during the summer months. We also decided to change the name of Rally Day to the Fall Festival Sunday and hold it on the second Sunday, rather than Labor Day weekend, and begin with two services on the following Sunday, September 20. We interspersed some contemporary worship during the summer with traditional worship, and the mix seemed to be well received.
We also encouraged the use of pictures of members to be shown prior to worship on the screen in the sanctuary as a way of showing visitors who we are and what we do. The pictures could be from worship, from congregational events such as Rally Day, bowling league, committee meetings, or just being at fellowship after church.
The committee also recommended a Sending Ceremony for the youth attending Youth Convo in New Orleans, which was done, with a sense of joy that so many of our youth attended.
We are truly blessed to have a music director of the caliber and dedications of Daniel Trzciak. Daniel has worked tirelessly in directing our voice choir and bell choir, as well as producing a wonderful Christmas concert and high quality music for all worship services.
We are also grateful to all the members of our congregation who volunteer to read lessons in worship, help with communion, be liturgical assistants, usher, and greet people coming to and leaving worship. Please be reminded, however, that everyone is really a greeter and we want all visitors to feel welcome, share your faith with them and with fellow members. You might start a conversation by asking someone, What lifted your spirit the most in worship today? Get a conversation going about God, faith, forgiveness, having a good spirit. Peace we with you.
Respectfully submitted by Worship & Music Chairperson: Carl Malin.
