CHRISTIAN EDUCATION REPORT FOR 2009
We were successful in expanding our Sunday School again this year. We have gained a new family and are seeing a couple of younger siblings filtering into our classrooms. The Education Team has served about 12 member families and 22 kids. Most of these children are regular attendees. It is wonderful to be seeing so many children running our halls and filling them with laughter and a little mischief. We have continued to serve several visiting children as well, and encourage our LCC kids and adults to invite friends. We have been using a curriculum called the One Room Sunday School. It is working well and gives variety to our classes. It also allows us to combine the classes if necessary. We have studied Lent, the first Christians and Advent this past year.
Our teaching team consists of the following: Ellen Gnoyke and Linda Sosnoski are team-teaching our confirmation class. Katherine Ehlert is teaching our 3rd through 6th graders this year and helping them hone their bible skills. Jodi Check teaches the preschool through second graders. We would like to welcome Judy and Cliff Shirmer, who have joined our Education Team. They have jumped in with their feet running and have been substitute teaching as needed this fall. We are lucky to have such wonderful leaders and role models for our youth at LCC.
We took a break from Sunday School for the summer and spent our time planning and recovering from VBS! We spent a week in June here on the Crocodile Dock with 130 kids… loud, obnoxious and laughing kids. A church full of fun, noise, emotion, promise and blessings! We got the word out that LCC was the place to be for VBS, and several returning kids brought their friends. We were filled to the brim and inviting more. You are all invited to help us create the excitement this year on the High Seas. We also ask that you keep your eye out for all things nautical for our props!
Advent brought our Christmas program produced and written by Katherine Ehlert. She did a wonderful job. Almost everyone had a speaking part. It was nice to see a full stage of kids and hear them singing this year. All who attended felt the spirit of Christmas.
We need to continue to grow this ministry if we want to energize our church. Our biggest group of Sunday School age kids will be starting confirmation next year. We have moved our 3rd and 4th graders up to the older class to learn new skills. It is again time to start filling our younger classes. Families and children truly are our future at LCC. We need to grow from the bottom up. Invite your friends, neighbors, and relatives. We have! You will never know if they want to join us, if you don’t ask. They may just be waiting for an invitation. Speaking of invitations, the Education Team would welcome anyone who would like to join our mission. We ask you to fervently search your soul, schedule and your gifts and ask yourself if you might be able to assist this ministry. We need planners, administrators, participants and prayers. We continue to pray and look at our options. A big thank you goes out to all of those who have volunteered their time to serve our youth this past year. Your dedication to this ministry is very much appreciated.
Respectfully submitted by Christian Education Team Leader: Jodi Check.
