Before and After School Care & Summer Camp Program
Thank you, for taking this opportunity to see what our program has to offer and
what it can do for you. Listed below is information about the program and the activities
provided for your child. Please read through all the wonderful things we have to
offer.
The purpose of our Before & After School Care / Summer Camp Programs is to provide
a quality environment in a Christian surrounding that develops intellectual, social,
creative, spiritual and physical skills that are necessary for the personal growth
of all children. We welcome children of all faiths and non-denominational.

COMMUNICATION
Teachers and parents should always keep communications open when caring for children.
On the front of your Parent Handbook will be the names and numbers of the director(s)
in charge of the program. A business card with these names and numbers will also
be given for your convenience to keep with you at all times.
RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION AND PRACTICES
During the time your child is enrolled in our program we will be reading bible stories
and doing an optional religious art project once a week. A prayer will be given
before all snacks and lunch breaks.
A.M. & P.M. SNACKS AND LUNCH
A breakfast food will be given for the morning snack and a healthy snack for the
afternoon will also be provided. Lunches will be provided by a catering service.
All meals that are given within the program will be posted in the room a week ahead
of time and corrected daily when applicable. Birthday or any other special event
snacks brought in from home must be store bought.
INSURANCE
Lutheran Church of the Cross has the required insurance mandated by DCFS.
ACTIVITIES
Scheduled times for homework, art & crafts, games, outings, and much more.
SNOW DAYS – HOLIDAYS – INSTITUTE DAYS
Our Before & After Care Program will be open when the school district is closed
except on major holidays, which include:
New Years Day
Good Friday*/Easter
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving & the day after
Christmas Eve
Christmas Day
New Years Eve (we close at 3:00 p.m.)
*Good Friday will be open if there are at least 10 children signed up for this
day
When a holiday falls on Saturday, we close on the Friday before. If the holiday
falls on Sunday, we close on the Monday after or if noted differently with a note.
If a holiday – like the 4th of July – falls on Thursday, then a survey will be given
to determine the status of that Friday after.
FIELD TRIPS
The only field trips at this time will be excursions to parks, library, and walks
around the neighborhood which will happen throughout the summer months during our
Summer Camp Program.
MEDICATION
No medication will be administered during the B&A program due to the short length
of time. Any medication that your child needs will be given only on full day enrollment
in our program. Due to some severe allergies such as those where EPI pens are necessary,
a written explanation from your doctor and explained on a special request form from
the parent/guardian will be necessary. (Current expiration dates on EPI pens are
also required).
EMERGENCY CARE
In case of an accident and immediate care is needed we will call the paramedics
or 911 and if necessary your child will be transported to the nearest hospital.
We do not carry medical insurance; parents will need to pay all the cost that might
be incurred. We will keep a parent’s signed consent form on file agreeing to this
provision. (This consent is within the registration form). Please keep us up to
date on any changes in phone numbers or addresses. In the case of a minor accident
you will be notified in writing of the matter as to when and where the accident
took place and what, if any, first-aid was performed. If for religious reasons you
request that we acquire the services of a certified practitioner (make sure that
their hours coincides with the child’s) for your child, we will do so provided all
necessary forms are filled out which will then be kept on file.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Our Before & After School Care / Summer Camp Programs respects the confidentiality
of all our families and we will not give out any personal information, addresses,
or phone numbers unless a release has been signed.
We are a non-profit organization and I hope this is what you are looking for in
